This is a deliberate choice, not a default. CC BY 4.0 is the license most funder open-access mandates (including Plan S) require, and it's the one that makes an article as widely usable and citable as possible — which is the entire point of publishing it in the first place.
Copyright Ownership
Authors retain copyright of their own work. Undeterred Press does not require a copyright transfer agreement, and never takes ownership of a published article. Publishing here grants Undeterred Press a non-exclusive right to publish and distribute the work under the CC BY 4.0 terms above — the author remains free to republish, reuse, or license the same work elsewhere.
A journal that claims to be "open access" while quietly requiring authors to sign over copyright is a known pattern worth watching for in this field generally. We don't do that, and this page exists partly so that claim isn't just asserted — it's specific and checkable.
Preservation
An article that stops being accessible five years after publication has failed at the one thing a journal is supposed to guarantee over a blog post or a LinkedIn article: permanence. We treat that as a founding commitment, not an afterthought.
Where things currently stand: our ISSN application has been submitted and is pending (reference APPL0007436), and we are registering as a Crossref member so that every article can carry a permanent DOI, alongside third-party indexing through Google Scholar and beyond. All of this is noted plainly rather than claimed as complete before it is. Formal redundant archival — the kind provided by services like LOCKSS or CLOCKSS, which mirror a journal's content across independent library systems so it survives even if the journal itself someday doesn't — is a goal we're pursuing as the journal's footprint grows, not yet in place. This page will be updated the day any of that changes.
SSRN Cross-Listing
As a further step toward reach and permanence, every article published on Undeterred Press is subsequently submitted to SSRN (the Social Science Research Network), a widely used open repository across business, economics, law, and public policy research. The Undeterred Press version remains the original, canonical publication; the SSRN listing cites back to it directly, so anyone who finds the work through SSRN can trace it to its source here. This happens as standard practice, not an author opt-in, and there is no cost to authors or to readers at either location.
